THE PROJECT: "Woman of the Forest" is a feature film set in the outskirts of Banjarmasin, Indonesia. The story follows a mother who has always dreamed of being a chef but is unsure how to achieve it, however after the sudden death of her husband she is pushed to start her own restaurant.
The film was born out of my experience speaking with people around the world who were coming online for the first time and all the confusion, self-doubt, and conversely elation they experienced and how they could utilize the internet to pursue their interests and dreams. Two people in particular were a big inspiration, a talented chef in Brazil doing odd cooking jobs here and there to make ends meet and a woman in Banjarmasin selling handbags to her neighbors who was intrigued to expand online.
